The open competition will begin on July 17th, and the documents of all applicants will now be evaluated by the tender committee in charge of the competition, which will then decide how many applicants will proceed to the next stage of the competition.
In the second round of the competition, each applicant will have to explain their motivation to the competition committee, answer the committee’s questions and present their vision for improving the monitoring of the use of the national language, promoting and popularizing the use of the national language and implementing digitalization.
The third round of selection tests the applicant’s management skills, including strategic vision, decision-making ability and responsibility, motivating and developing employees, responding to change, and drive to achieve results.
At the end of the competition, the applicant or applicants with the highest scores will be recommended for appointment to the Minister of Justice, although the Minister has the option of not selecting anyone and starting the entire competitive process over again.
If hired, the job holder will receive a pre-tax monthly salary of 4,200 euros plus bonuses.
The National Language Centre (VVC) is sometimes confused with the Latvian Language Agency (LVA).
The VVC “implements national policies on supervising and controlling compliance with laws and regulations in the field of official language use” and “supervises the implementation of the Official Languages Law.”
The Latvian Language Association, on the other hand, states that its objectives are “to enhance the status of the Latvian language and promote its sustainable development” and “to implement the national language policy.”
