Abu Dhabi [UAE]18 August: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues its ongoing humanitarian efforts to assist the people of Sudan, demonstrating its longstanding commitment to aid and relief.
From 2014 to 2024, the UAE provided $3.5 billion in aid to Sudan. Since the conflict erupted in 2023, the UAE has provided $230 million in aid, according to a press release from the UAE Embassy in India.
More than 159 flights delivered more than 10,000 tonnes of food, medicines and other relief supplies, and two field hospitals were established in Chad to treat Sudanese refugees.
According to a press release, 24,741 patients were treated at Amjaras Field Hospital, while 21,761 were treated at Abeche Field Hospital.
In April, the UAE pledged more than $100 million in aid at the International Humanitarian Conference for Sudan and Neighbouring Countries in Paris.
The UAE’s contributions include $70 million to UN humanitarian organizations in Sudan and $30 million directly to refugees in neighboring countries. The UAE has also provided $25 million to the World Food Programme, $20 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), $8 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) and $7 million to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
In addition, the UAE donated US$5 million each to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
“The UAE remains committed to supporting the people of Sudan during this difficult time and providing essential humanitarian and medical assistance to those affected by the ongoing crisis,” the UAE Embassy in India said.
