The ceremony was attended by guests of honour including Mr. Paul Chan, Financial Secretary for the HKSAR Government, Ms. Lilian Cheung, Deputy Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Mr. Chan Guolai, Second Inspector of the Youth Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mr. Simon Chan, Chairman of Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Ltd, and Dr. Rocky Chan, CEO of Cyberport.
With the theme “Imagined Fairground: AI-Powered Entertainment in the Web 3.0 Era”, DELF 2024 will bring together industry luminaries to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) and Web 3.0 technologies can be used to innovate in areas including digital entertainment, smart living, cultural tourism, night economy and education. The three-day forum will feature an experience zone with around 50 innovative solutions, multiple workshops and competitions, providing the public and digital entertainment enthusiasts with an immersive experience to enjoy the integration of digital entertainment and virtual reality.
The DELF 2024 Experience Zone has four themes: Smart Lifestyle, Robotics, Sports & Games, and Culture & Arts. A variety of unique and innovative experiences and exhibits are featured in the Experience Zone. These include the “Van Gogh DigiVillage” that integrates AI and immersive technology, the Roborn Robot Barista where coffee culture meets robot technology, and the highly flexible movement capabilities of a humanoid robot provided by Unitree. Finally, the interactive AI chatbot ChatsOK is specially designed for education and training. The Zone also showcases the work of students from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s (PolyU) “Master of Science in Metaverse Technology” program. On-site e-sports activities and performances are also available, including the AI Everywhere Robotics Esports Invitational 2024 hosted by Intel, the University of Hong Kong, and CETIC, and the Elderly e-Sports Tournament & Experience Day hosted by the Rotary Club of Smart Hong Kong.
At the ceremony, Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan said, “The popularity of DELF 2024 and the diversity of participants convincingly demonstrate Hong Kong’s status as a digital entertainment hub. The global entertainment and media industry has been growing steadily since the pandemic. New technologies, especially AI and Web 3.0, are profoundly transforming the industry; redefining interactions and applications across games, television, film, and even arts and sports. The HKSAR Government is actively supporting the development of digital entertainment, including by assisting Cyberport in building a vibrant Web3 ecosystem. Since the launch of Cyberport’s Web3 Proof of Concept Grant Scheme, 45 projects have been approved to accelerate the commercial adoption of Web 3.0 in Hong Kong. The Government will continue to cultivate more AI talents and attract such enterprises and projects to Hong Kong.”

Discussion sessions will also delve into how to drive technological innovation and breakthroughs in film, short video, and cultural and creative industries. Topics include “The Cross-Sector and Cross-Geographic Value of IP in Cultural and Creative Industries as Seen in the Film ‘Kowloon Walled City'” and “Micro-Entertainment: Personalization, Data, and Social Communities in a Liquid Economy.” Featured speakers include Professor Jeffrey Shaw of the School of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University, renowned film producer and screenwriter Manfred Wong, and renowned comic artist Andy Seto. Speakers will also explore the future development prospects of the “decentralized” entertainment economy, as well as the role of public entertainment in cultural tourism and the night economy.
On the first day of DELF 2024, Aquabloom International Sports Technology Group Limited (ABSG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to establish a Sports Technology Talent and Industry Development Centre. The centre will provide professional sports technology and management programs in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, as well as international sports and sports technology learning opportunities. As Cyberport’s ecosystem partner, ABSG operates in the sports technology ecosystem. The MoU was signed by Mr. Mike Yeung, Founder and CEO of ABSG, and Professor Ming Chan, Director of the Polytechnic Institute of Sports Science and Technology (RISports), Dean of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Professor of Biomechanics, and witnessed by Dr. Rocky Chan, CEO of Cyberport, and Professor Christopher Chao, Vice President (Research and Innovation) of Polytechnic University.
Following the successful first day, DELF 2024 will host diverse events over the next two days. From student drone show presentations to a senior e-sports tournament, the forum showcases the wide range of developments in Hong Kong’s AI innovation and digital entertainment. The weekend will conclude with the prestigious NEXX Digital Entertainment Leader Awards, which celebrates the innovators driving the future of digital media in Hong Kong.
