Several Serie A clubs failed to sign American midfielder Tanner Tessman this summer, but a new buyer has emerged who is keen to add him to their squad.
Italian outlet La Stampa reported on Thursday that Torino are interested in signing the Venezia midfielder for the upcoming Serie A season. A move for Tesman to Torino would see him reteaming with former Venezia manager Paulo Vanoli.
Inter Milan and Fiorentina are other Italian clubs interested in Tesman, but talks between them and Venezia have broken down, with Venezia general manager Filippo Antonelli having already ruled him out of the club’s plans for next season, with the 22-year-old always keen to move on.
“Tesman is no longer part of the Venezia project,” Antonelli said in an interview transcribed by Tuttomersato. “It’s been a difficult week. You have to understand my feelings. I’m especially sorry for the player, for the situation he created himself. At the moment he’s not on Di Francesco’s available list, but that’s his choice, it’s not up to us. Of course he continues to train, but at the moment he’s not in a good frame of mind. Do we repair with him? Let’s see, anything is possible.”
Tesman played a key role in Venezia’s promotion to Serie A via the promotion playoffs last season. The former FC Dallas academy product made 42 appearances in total, scoring seven goals and providing three assists, forming a formidable partnership with fellow MLS product Gianluca Busio.
Both Busio and Tesman have been with the Venice team for the past three seasons.
Tesman played in all four games for the U.S. Olympic Team in Paris, France this summer, helping the U.S. advance through the group stage before losing to Morocco in the quarterfinals.
Venezia were eliminated from the Coppa Italia by Brescia in midweek and open their Serie A campaign against Lazio on Sunday.
Torino will host U.S. men’s national team stars Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musa as well as AC Milan on Saturday.
