CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Downtown Decorah is one of less than 20 in Iowa designated by the state as a cultural and entertainment district, and having a vibrant downtown qualifies for this designation.
The downtown Decorah district hosts more than 500 events each year.
The vibrancy also means dining options like Mabe’s Pizza: According to Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce officials, there are more than two dozen eateries in just the 12-13 blocks that make up the downtown district.
There are a wide variety of stores to shop at and we stopped off at Ace Kitchen Place, which specializes in kitchen supplies.
The city is also known for its music and arts.
“With live music, cultural events, art tours and events like NordicFest happening throughout the city, it’s our city’s largest community festival and a true celebration of vitality,” said Jessica Rilling, executive director of the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce.
This year, Decorah celebrates its 175th anniversary.
Rilling said although the city isn’t located along any major highways or interstates, people visit for the outdoor recreation, beauty and vibrant downtown of “Our Town Decorah.”
