On Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi discussed with His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the serious impact of the recent incursion and violation by “Israeli” extremists at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Temple Mount, which took place last Tuesday.
The ministers condemned these incursions, especially the provocative incursion into Al-Aqsa Mosque by extremist “Israeli” Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, calling it a dangerous escalation that increases tensions and fuels conflict amid the current regional crisis, according to a foreign ministry statement.
They discussed joint measures to address these violations and mobilize international support to preserve the historical and legal status of Jerusalem and its holy sites.
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed the importance of respecting the Hashemite family’s historical custody and its role in guarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
He stressed the need to respect the jurisdiction of Jordan’s Ministry of Awaqf and Islamic Affairs regarding the management of Al-Aqsa Mosque, underlining Jordan’s exclusive authority in these matters.
He also clarified that the UAE stands in full solidarity with Jordan and supports all measures taken to protect the holy sites.
The two ministers stressed the need to comply with international law, end illegal activities throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territory and achieve an immediate ceasefire in order to end the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. They expressed support for efforts by Egypt, Qatar and the United States to seek a prisoner exchange agreement.
