With the Premier League season resuming this week, Mikel Arteta has another chance at winning the title and will be hoping to succeed this time. Arsenal have strengthened their squad with the signing of Riccardo Calafiori after a strong start to pre-season, but questions remain about their failure to sign a striker.
Heading into the summer, this was a contentious debate. On the one hand, Arsenal lacked a proven centre-forward who could consistently score goals, but on the other, Kai Havertz was off to a good start to prove himself as one of those players in 2024. Unfortunately, as things stand, Arsenal are yet to sign a striker this summer.
Metro reports that Victor Osimhen, one of the strikers currently in Arsenal’s interest, has put in a transfer request. In many ways this is a long time coming, but the Nigerian international is keen to leave Napoli for a new adventure, and Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Arsenal remain interested in signing him.
Obviously, Victor Osimhen would be a luxury option, but if Arsenal are able to sell Eddie Nketiah for the right price, they will be in a better position to land him than they are currently, but even then fans will likely not be too optimistic.
As it stands, Osimhen appears to be a player the media has clearly named, which doesn’t mean Arsenal aren’t interested, but at this stage in the transfer market, fans should only take “interest” seriously if it materializes in the form of a bid or discussion of terms.
Of course, no Arsenal fan would have been so naive as to turn their nose up at the idea of signing Victor Osimhen over the past few seasons, but at this stage it’s hard to believe Arsenal will go through with it. But maybe, just maybe.
Do you think Arsenal will sign Victor Osimhen?
