Here I was, struggling as usual to not sweat the small stuff and actually do something productive, when suddenly, a little bombshell landed in front of me: the Raiders had signed Nathan Peterman.
Yes, that Nathan Peterman.
Nate Peterman spent four of his four seasons with the Raiders, appearing in just two games and catching five passes for 25 yards.
So when I tweeted the news, I got the reactions you’d expect, most of which were along the lines of:
Some may remember the Raiders’ Hard Knocks camp and how Jon Gruden lambasted Peterman.
To be fair, it was 2019 training camp, Peterman’s third year in the NFL and his first with the Raiders.
He then spent three seasons with the Raiders, his first year on the practice squad.
From there he spent two seasons with the Chicago Bears, where he played under new Raiders OC Luke Getsy before returning to the Raiders.
Peterman signed with the Saints this offseason but was waived on Aug. 2 due to New Orleans’ quarterback surplus, and with how the Raiders’ quarterback performed in the second half of the preseason opener, the Raiders likely felt they had to make a move.
Peterman knows Ghezzi’s attacks.
i guess….
He can’t be worse than Anthony Brown or Carter Bradley, right?

Better than Anthony Brown, I think.

Looking back at AB’s play on Saturday, it was bound to happen.

It was a good move, not a late-game NFL QB play.

And at least one commenter tried to give Peterman the benefit of the doubt.
Well, I’ll defend the guy. [deep breath]
I know he got a lot of laughs after that game where he was intercepted five times, but he’s been on the team a long time, and the reason for that is simply because he always comes to practice prepared and plays well.

Others, however, were sarcastic.
Well, Peterman is undefeated against the Raiders, so he won’t be beating us for any other team.

But let’s be honest, he’s probably a better option than Anthony Brown or Carter Bradley at this point, which says more about the Raiders’ quarterback situation than anything else.
