CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — This Saturday marks the start of Champaign StreetFest: Downtown Throwdown, an event that will feature food contests, music, live entertainment, local vendors, activities for kids and more.
StreetFest is hosted by the City of Champaign and the Champaign Center Partnership and will take place at Walnut and Market Streets from 2 to 9 p.m.

The second Downtown Throwdown food competition will feature hot dog and pasta dishes from Big Grove Tavern, Esquire Lounge, Hamilton Walker’s, Martinelli’s Market: Bakery & Deli, Su’s Bakery and TenQ.
There will also be live music from local bands such as Terminus Victor, Curb Service and Modern Drugs, as well as Grammy Award-winning New Orleans band Rebirth Brass Band, who will take to the Walnut Street stage.
CU Broad Comedy will be bringing the laughs to Market Street. Other entertainment shows include pole performances and lessons by Jessica Stern, Morgan Fox and Mimi Nguyen, and fire dancing by Neonium, Jet Gingersnaps and Cecil Sparks.
Mae’s Mexican Grill thanks community for memories after original building demolished
The Kid’s Zone will provide little attendees with activities like face painting, giant bubble and balloon spinning, and local artists and vendors will be selling their work throughout the event.
“We are thrilled to bring the community together for a day of celebration, delicious food and great entertainment,” said Jenna Manolakes, executive director of the Champaign Center Partnership. “This event is a testament to Champaign’s vibrant spirit and the incredible support of our local businesses and sponsors.”
