Bayern Munich must complete the exit procedures in the coming days to free up the remaining transfer funds. The Bavarian club is willing to part ways with several veterans on the team, but has not yet received any concrete offers. Leon Goretzka is one of the veteran Bayern players who could leave Munich this summer.
The German midfielder is committed to playing for Bayern Munich next season, but now a top European club has finally shown interest in him. According to Bild, Atletico Madrid are interested in Leon Goretzka and have him on their list of summer transfer targets. It remains to be seen whether Goretzka is open to joining the La Liga team.
Germany’s SZ (via iMiaSanMia) also reported that Atletico Madrid and Napoli are interested in Leon Goretzka. Bayern have yet to receive an offer for the German midfielder, whose contract with the Bavarian club expires in 2026.
Atletico Madrid stepped up their efforts to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea on Tuesday, but it is unclear whether Goretzka will act as back-up for the England international for the Spanish midfielder.
Goretzka is not guaranteed a place in Bayern’s starting XI next season. Joao Parinha is expected to be Bayern’s first-choice defensive midfielder after his June move from Fulham, and Aleksandar Pavlovic is likely to play consistently in the no.8 role next season after an impressive debut season.
The 29-year-old midfielder is one of Bayern’s highest-paid players. He was not the first-choice midfielder under manager Thomas Tuchel, and although Goretzka performed well in his limited playing time last season, Die Roten are clearly keen to move forward without him.
Goretzka would be better off leaving Bayern Munich as he is not guaranteed games for the club next season and will need to play regularly to break into Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad. Goretzka was not selected for Germany’s Euro 2024 squad.
Club officials and Kompany are due to meet with Goretzka in the coming days to clarify his role within the team, with more clarity expected over his future ahead of the first competitive game of the season.
