It’s for the culture!
Rob Lowe has teased a sequel to the 1985 classic ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’.
Although it’s been nearly four decades since the coming-of-age film was released, Lowe, 60, said in a July 29 interview with Entertainment Tonight that the project is in the “early stages” of development.

Rob spoke about the reboot rumors while promoting the second season of Netflix comedy “Unstable” alongside his son and co-star John Owen Rowe, 29.
“I’ve been meeting with the studio and talking about this project for about four months now,” Rob revealed, “but it’s still very, very, very, very early stages, so we’ll see.”
Rob starred alongside Demi Moore, Andrew McCarthy, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez and Ally Sheedy in the popular film about seven friends navigating life and friendship after college.
Rob, who played Billy Hicks in the pop culture touchstone, was considered a Hollywood favorite at the time of its release.

Rowe said the release of the “Bratz” documentary has “made me even more excited” for the “St. Elmo’s” sequel.
McCarthy, who played Kevin Dolenz on “St. Elmo’s Fire,” released “Brats” in June. The Hulu documentary explored how McCarthy and his generation of actors dealt with the “Brat Pack” label that was applied to many young stars emerging in Hollywood in the 1980s.
Rob, who appears briefly in the documentary, said he ultimately decided to embrace the Brat Pack tradition.

“It’s amazing to be part of an act that has staying power. It’s so amazing that people are still interested in and love the Brat Pack,” Rowe told People magazine after the documentary’s release.
“What I think was fun about it, and what I enjoyed about the documentary, and what I enjoyed talking to Andrew about, was how differently we all dealt with being part of that phenomenon. Some of us really struggled,” he said.
In the documentary, McCarthy asks Rowe if the label would follow them through to the end, to which Rowe responds, “Of course they would. That’s the way it should be.”
“We were really fortunate to be in the right place at the right time with the direction the film industry is currently moving in, which is towards films aimed mostly at 18- to 20-year-olds. All the movies that come out in the summer are aimed at that audience,” he continued. “It hasn’t always been that way. We were there when it started.”
Rob also said the release of the “Bratz” documentary has “made me even more excited” about the sequel news.
The veteran actor later said the label “changed all of our lives… it changed the face of entertainment.”
Lowe’s son, John, admitted in an interview that he had never seen the film, which he called “St. Elmer’s.”
The father-son duo have been co-starring on the Netflix show since March 2023.

Rob and Jon’s “Unstable” tells the story of a socially challenged son who is forced to work for his eccentric and exotic father’s company.
“The show is based on his constant attacks on me on Instagram,” Rob joked, “so to be able to share the nature of this relationship and expose it on a TV show is pretty special.”
“Unstable” Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on August 1st.
