…And it’s a good one!
In May 2024, the UAE Cabinet released the UAE Public Holidays Calendar for 2025, showing all official holidays for the coming year.
As in previous years, it covers all holidays according to the Gregorian calendar, as well as holidays according to the lunar calendar, whose dates depend on the visibility of the moon.
However, with the announcement of UAE public holidays for 2025, a new resolution has been adopted under Part 2 of UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024. This new resolution will result in changes to the way certain public holidays are announced starting next year.
According to the resolution, if a holiday falls on a weekend, “it may be carried over to the beginning or end of the week as decided by the Cabinet.” This applies to all public holidays in the UAE except Eid. So, from now on, if a public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, an additional holiday will be announced on Friday or Monday.
The resolution added that “local authorities may approve other official holidays not mentioned in this resolution for government departments and institutions for special occasions or other reasons,” potentially leading to the addition of more Emirati-specific holidays next year.
