Recently, Chinmayi Sripada shared an incident where her husband, actor Rahul Ravindran, asked for a hug from his two-year-old daughter, but she refused, so her husband respected her decision and didn’t force her. Her post received mixed reactions, but the singer explained her stand on ‘consent’. Chinmayi Sripada also puts an end to surrogacy rumours by sharing a selfie of her baby bump.

Reacting to the singer’s recent Instagram story about her daughter and husband, an X user tweeted in Tamil, “Well, if this was a 2-year-old girl or boy and their mother came to hug them, would you say the same thing?”

Chinmayi responded: “If at any time my daughter does not want to be held by me, the mother who carried and gave birth to her and her twin brother, then I will leave her alone until she is ready to be held.”
She added, “I would never force a hug on my daughter just because that’s what I want, and the same goes for my son. If you don’t understand, then you don’t understand consent. And you never will and will continue to force others and your children to do what you want, when you want. Beyond language, the concept of consent is not understood by many. It’s no wonder our fragile egos can’t take no for an answer.”

Twitter reacts to Chinmayi’s statement about her daughter
Many others also weighed in on Chinmayi’s post, with one tweeting: “If a child feels unsafe towards you then you are a failure as a human being. In any case, children are too innocent and naive to think like that. Children are naturally taught to be wary of strangers but being wary of their own parents is a failure as a human being.”

The singer responded to the tweet, writing, “My husband told our daughter he respects her autonomy. Unfortunately, any decent man would understand that there are more crazy men here than anything else. And I can also see how your child’s consent would be constantly violated with the way you speak,” writing, “I can only say that people like you have too little faith in people. Maybe you should take a look at yourself before blaming others. Not everyone is bad and in my opinion, that’s like blowing your horn in front of a lazy bull.”
“Small people should be respected too”
Others supported Chinmayi. “There could be many reasons to say ‘no’ to something other than feeling unsafe with them,” one person tweeted. “It’s true that most children are abused by people very close to them, often their own parents, but that’s not the point. There could be many reasons why a child doesn’t want to be hugged. If you don’t respect that and force them, they’ll just learn the lesson that they have to forgive,” another tweeted. “How can respecting a child’s wishes put them at risk?”

User X also tweeted, “She’s right to teach the importance of consent early on. Don’t have physical contact with kids without their consent. It protects them from prey,” while another wrote, “Don’t we have to respect little people? Should we be teaching them about consent early on? No need to give them a cynical explanation, but let them know that consent counts. It’s a tool they can use to protect themselves. And who better to teach that than her?”

In a lengthy message on Tuesday, the singer spoke out about how she “speaks out on a daily basis and gets viciously maligned,” she tweeted, “In a country where a daughter can be killed for marrying the way she wants, talking about consent and boundaries. In a country where a soup boy is considered a hero for abusing his girlfriend who dumped him. I speak out on a daily basis and get viciously maligned, to the point where Heartbatch has filed a complaint. Memes and Medium pages have become a cesspit for the most derogatory comments people make. I’ve always pointed this out but it’s become the norm in our culture…”
She further added, “If I say ‘my daughter’ it becomes an issue of all places. Anyone with common sense shouldn’t have an issue if a parent says ‘my’. But I expect common sense from people whose usual tactic is to say ‘shut up ranjha’ or ‘my husband is gay’ if a woman says something they don’t like. Before they had kids, these same people were commenting on infertility, now they’re talking about IVF surrogacy and questioning who the father really is. I wish people knew and understood what kind of people our society is full of…” In another tweet, she slammed those who brought up the old surrogacy allegations.
