X (formerly Twitter) stores user data in its Grok AI training pool by default, but you can prevent this. X lets you opt out of AI training, but the option isn’t visible in the settings.
Grok is a large-scale language model similar to ChatGPT and Google Gemini that answers questions with an emphasis on humor over accuracy, which is said to be one of Grok’s major selling points.
Grok is only available to users who have paid for an X subscription, but by default it trains using everyone’s data.

This was discovered by several X users back in July. The good news is that you can turn off data usage for AI training and delete your conversation history with the AI bot.
How to turn off AI training of X using your data
The setting to disable Grok data collection is not available from the X Mobile app, you’ll need a desktop to follow the steps below.
Open the Settings page with X on your desktop. Select the Privacy and safety button. Click Grok. Uncheck the box that says Allow my posts, interactions with Grok, typing, and results to be used for training and fine-tuning. Tap Delete conversation history to delete all conversations with your AI model.
What data is used for Grok AI training?
According to the support page, when the setting is on, X can “leverage your interactions, inputs, and results in Grok, as well as X’s posts, for training and fine-tuning purposes.”

“This also means that as you interact with Grok, your interactions, inputs and results can potentially be used to train and enhance the system’s performance.”
X’s AI training has also attracted the attention of the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), a European privacy watchdog, which told TechCrunch it was “surprised” by the platform’s move and that it has “followed up” with X and is currently waiting for a response.
