CM Punk and John Cena may have been bitter rivals, but it seems like the World’s Best might be interested in teaming up with the 16-time World Champion in the near future.
During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Punk was asked who he would like to team with now that he’s back in WWE, and his first choice was his dog Larry, who now has official merchandise for sale, but his second choice was John Cena.
“Since John Cena announced his retirement, everybody’s been asking me about it. Obviously everybody wants to see us fight. I think me and him teaming up would be something. I think it would be pretty interesting.”
Cena and Punk feuded in 2011 as part of the highly acclaimed “Summer of Punk”, which culminated with Punk delivering a devastating Pipebomb on the June 27, 2011, episode of Monday Night RAW. Punk “left” WWE as WWE Champion at Money in the Bank that year, but returned eight days later to continue his feud with John.
The tag team with Cena was one of Punk’s final performances during his initial WWE run before leaving the company in January 2014. The two last teamed together on December 18, 2013 on WWE SmackDown, in a (DQ) win against The Shield.
John Cena’s retirement tour
Cena said at Money in the Bank 2024 that 2025 will be his final year as a wrestler, bringing an end to his legendary 23-year career on the WWE main roster. Several names have already come forward as possible opponents. Cena’s opponent at WrestleMania 27, The Miz, has said he wants to join John’s farewell tour, as has former WWE superstar Matt Cardona. Cena has said he doesn’t have (or want to use) any behind-the-scenes influence in choosing matches for the tour.
