First, words of encouragement, love and birthday greetings go to my cousin who will be celebrating her 52nd birthday on Saturday, July 27th. Jamie Lou Adkins of Wayne was employed by Huntington Hose and Hydraulics for over 10 years and is the daughter of the late James “Jim” and Betty Adkins. It is Jamie’s first birthday without her mother, who passed away a few months ago. While Jamie is certainly surrounded by her sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends, the feeling of missing her mother never fades, especially during special moments and occasions.

BIRTHDAY: A special Wayne County resident will be celebrated in style with birthday cake, gifts and family and friends on Sunday, July 28. Auditions: Auditions for “Nunsense,” the hilarious musical directed by Helen Freeman, musical director Jennifer Londery and choreographed by Sarah Campbell Stacey, will be held at 7 pm on Monday and Tuesday, July 29 and 30, at the Alchemy Theatre’s Geneva Kent Center for the Arts, 68 Holley Ave. The musical, by Dan Goggin, will play at the theatre on September 20 and 21, 27 and 28 at 7:30 pm, and on September 22 and 29 at 2:30 pm. Dog Gone It: The 20th annual Hot Dog Festival featuring root beer chugging and hot dog eating contests, dog contests, arts and crafts, a cruise-in car and truck show, kids and pet zones and live entertainment by Johnason Cox, Blue Sky and Avonek will be held at Pullman Square from 8am to 5pm on Saturday, July 27. FINAL DAY: Saturday, July 27, is the final day of the annual Cabell County Fair at West Virginia Pumpkin Park (Milton). The theme is “Barnyard Bash.” Live performances/music will be from noon to 8:30 pm, Demolition Derby will be at 5 pm, and Power Slam Wrestling will be at 7:30 pm. Admission is $10, with a discounted rate of $5 for seniors and free for those 5 and under.
