Officials from the US, Israel and the UAE met to discuss plans for the Gaza Strip after the war ends, News.Az reported, citing Anadolu Agency.
The meeting took place in Abu Dhabi last Thursday, Axios News reported, citing two Israeli officials.
The meeting, hosted by the UAE’s Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was attended by Brett McGurk, adviser for the Middle East and North Africa on the White House National Security Council, and Israeli Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer.
Two senior Israeli officials who have been working on drafting Israel’s plans for Gaza the next day also travelled to Abu Dhabi with Delmar, the official said.
After three days of talks in the Chinese capital, Beijing, Palestinian groups announced that all factions under the Palestine Liberation Organization umbrella were “close to reaching an agreement” on achieving “comprehensive national unity” and establishing an interim consensus government.
Israel has faced international condemnation for continuing its brutal attacks on Gaza since the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack, ignoring UN Security Council resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Since then, more than 39,000 Palestinians have been killed, most of them women and children, and nearly 90,000 have been injured, according to local health officials.
More than nine months after the Israeli onslaught began, supplies of food, clean water and medicine have been cut off and large swaths of Gaza are in ruins.
Israel has been charged with genocide at the International Court of Justice, which has ordered Tel Aviv to immediately halt its military operations in the southern city of Rafah, where more than one million Palestinians fled to escape the war before the May 6 invasion.
