“It’s truly an honor to be entrusted by our tribe and our fellow Cherokee people to share, preserve and celebrate these incredible stories with the world,” said executive producer and host Jennifer Lauren. “We’re incredibly grateful to have had such an incredible team working on this show to make it a success, and we’re incredibly proud of the show’s continued recognition across the industry. With a record seven Emmy Awards this year and nearly 30 Emmys overall, OsiyoTV continues to demonstrate that there’s aspiration and room for Native-led content and representation across television and film.”
This year, OsiyoTV received nine nominations from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in categories including Arts, Entertainment, Diversity, History, Culture, Human Interest, Nostalgia, Lifestyle and Social Issues. The groundbreaking documentary series won seven more Emmy Awards for episodes aired in Season 8, the most awards a series has won in a single season.
Since premiering in 2015, “Oshiyo, A Cherokee Voice” has brought to life hundreds of Cherokee people, past and present. Hosted and directed by Cherokee resident, filmmaker and Emmy Award-winning journalist Jennifer Lauren, this first-of-its-kind series is helping to break down barriers and change the way Native Americans are represented by bringing Cherokee’s rich traditions and fascinating contemporary stories to a global audience.
Cherokee Film has four divisions: Cherokee Film Productions, Cherokee Film Studios, Cherokee Film Commission and Cherokee Film Institute, all working toward a common goal of innovating narrative sovereignty while promoting economic development on the Tribe’s reservation. Cherokee Film Productions develops, produces, promotes and distributes a variety of original content in film, television and other media that tell authentic Cherokee stories on behalf of the Tribe, its people and its businesses, including the popular and award-winning OsiyoTV.
Founded in 1947, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Emmy Awards are organizations that recognize and honor the best in the television industry.
