Finally, YouTube Music has added a feature we’ve all been waiting for for years: a new feature that lets you search for songs by humming or singing.
The feature was first teased last year and made available via Google in 2020. Now, it’s fully released, and users can tap on the magnifying glass icon within the app. Users can hum a tune they have in their head, and the app will generate results based on possible matches. Users can also sing the tune if they know the lyrics, or play it on an instrument. The feature is an expansion of Google’s MusicLM technology, which was previously used to generate music from text prompts or humming.
YouTube Music is also looking to add more AI and music recognition tools, including a new feature for premium subscribers in the US that will let you create custom radio stations by describing the type of music you like to listen to.
Currently available on iOS and Android, the hum, sing and play feature will be rolling out to all users soon, according to YouTube.
Earlier this month, reports emerged that YouTube was negotiating AI music licensing deals with major record labels that could include one-time payments for access to the music.
Last year, YouTube introduced an experimental AI feature called Dream Track. Powered by the Lyria model, the platform allows select users to create songs using AI-generated vocal clones of famous artists.
