On Thursday, a commentator on a British Open special made some pessimistic comments about Tiger Woods that Woods will likely wish he could retract.
Woods started the first eight holes four over par in tough conditions at Royal Troon, but he never looked too comfortable in the cold weather. He finished with par, par and birdie to finish one under and then blasted off the third green to some serious cheers.
Shortly thereafter, the commentator covering the group of Woods, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay commented on the 15-time major winner’s eyes as he walked down the fairway:
“You look into his eyes and you have to think he’s taking loads of painkillers to deal with the pain,” the commentator said. “It’s not easy.”
It’s no secret that Woods feels pain every time he hits a tee shot, and that he’s taken medication to deal with a number of injuries in the past, but it’s something he probably doesn’t want to say out loud. Naturally, golf Twitter responded.
