Legendary former Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci has said he expects new Bianconeri manager Thiago Motta to “have fun” and also offered words of advice to Italy star Federico Chiesa with his long-term future in Turin uncertain.
Bonucci spoke briefly to Sky Sports Italia in an interview on Sunday while attending the Giffoni Film Festival in Campania.
Speaking to the media, Bonucci explained that he feels Juventus have already improved this summer with the signings of Michele Di Gregorio, Douglas Luiz, Khren Thuram and Juan Cabal.
He will also be hoping that Thiago Motta can bring some exciting football after his success with Bologna last season.
“Emotionally speaking, it is not possible for me to leave Juventus. It was part of my football beliefs, it was part of my life as a footballer and it still is,” Bonucci told Sky.
“Thiago Motta has a strong squad which has been further strengthened by the signings. He will entertain us and we hope he will be back in the fight for the Scudetto from start to finish.”
“I’m sure he will prove his worth. He has the attributes of a great coach.”
Bonucci also acknowledged that manager Federico Chiesa would have to re-evaluate his priorities and objectives ahead of the 2024-25 season but said he would ultimately remain at Juventus despite rumours linking him with a move away from the Allianz Stadium this summer.
“I think he needs to understand what he wants. In recent years he has had problems, both physically and with his personality, but now he needs to take another step to become a top player. I hope he stays at Juventus,” Bonucci said.
