Big Sean seems like a good guy. By all accounts, the rapper is well-liked and respected throughout the industry. There are only two rappers who seem to dislike him, but they are both going out of their way to try and steal his popularity. Kanye West dissed Big Sean in an interview with Drink Champs, and a fan leaked the rapper’s new album. Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar has allegedly dissed the rapper on multiple occasions. To make matters worse, Lamar has a habit of casting a shadow over Big Sean’s releases. Social media is worried that it could happen again.
Shawn Don announced that his new album, Better Me Than You, will be released on August 9th. This is an exciting development and a smart move considering the recent leaks. The rapper dropped the official trailer for the album and teased an unreleased beat. The response was positive, with many hoping for a major comeback from Shawn. However, some looked to the track record of Kendrick Lamar, who stomped the release of Shawn’s single “Precision” by releasing “Like That” on the same day. Then there was 2013’s “Control,” which saw Lamar’s verse gain attention online and overshadowed the album it was meant to be on. Never mind the fact that Dot criticized Shawn’s song.
Big Sean’s release date lines up with K. Dot theory
Even when Kendrick Lamar isn’t stomping Big Sean’s rollout, he’s making waves. Big Sean released a freestyle on July 16 that caused a buzz when listeners mistook him for dissing K. Dot. DJHed had to clarify that Sean wasn’t, but by that point, the buzz was already flowing. It’s also worth noting that there are rumors that Kendrick Lamar’s album will be released in August. The jacket Lamar wears in the “Not Like Us” video has a pendant with the date August 8, 2024, which many believe is the official release date. If true, Big Sean will once again be outdone by his Compton colleague.
