BEIRUT (Reuters) – Israeli forces carried out an attack late on Saturday targeting an ammunition depot belonging to Lebanese militant group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, three security sources told Reuters.
The attack on the town of Adroun, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of the Lebanese-Israeli border, triggered a series of loud explosions that were heard by witnesses across southern Lebanon.
At least four civilians were wounded in the airstrike in Adoroun, medical and security sources told Reuters. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.
The attack in southern Lebanon came on the same day that Israeli warplanes struck Houthi military facilities in Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah, which Hezbollah said marked the start of a “new dangerous phase” in the region.
Israel launched its attacks in Yemen a day after drones launched by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels struck Israel’s economic capital, Tel Aviv.
Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire since Hezbollah announced a “support front” with the Palestinians on October 7, shortly after its ally Hamas attacked Israel’s southern border region, triggering an Israeli military offensive against Gaza.
