(MENAFN – Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ABU DHABI, July 17 (KUNA) — United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo on Wednesday discussed strategic relations within the framework of the two countries’ comprehensive economic partnership.
State news agency WAM reported that Sheikh Mohammed and President Joko Widodo, who is on a two-day official visit to the UAE, reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing ties to help achieve the goals of sustainable development.
The two leaders reviewed various aspects of cooperation between the UAE and Indonesia, particularly in the fields of economy, investment, renewable energy, food security, infrastructure, education, health, climate change action and the environment, which are considered priorities for sustainable development in both countries.
Sheikh Mohammed expressed his gratitude to President Widodo for the important role he has played in developing bilateral relations and promoting cooperation, and acknowledged his own personal efforts to further advance these relations.
He noted that the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in 2022 is a major milestone that will contribute to economic cooperation between the UAE and Indonesia and promote mutual development.
He emphasized that non-oil trade between the two countries was $2.7 billion when President Joko took office in 2014, but is expected to reach $4.4 billion by 2023. In addition, agreements have been signed for projects worth over $21 billion in Indonesia by 2023, and the two countries are looking forward to further strategic investments.
The Indonesian President expressed pride in the constructive cooperation with the UAE President over the past decade and said he looked forward to continuing to strengthen ties between the UAE and Indonesia.
President Joko Widodo welcomed the agreements announced by the two countries today in various key areas and highlighted their role in strengthening bilateral relations.
Additionally, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and President Joko Widodo witnessed the announcement of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements aimed at further developing cooperation between the UAE and Indonesia.
