Longmont will celebrate its 24th annual Day of the Dead “Dia de Muertos,” considered to be Colorado’s longest-running traditional celebration honoring loved ones who have passed away. On Saturday, the Downtown Longmont Street Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring the Firehouse Arts Center’s Gigantes Procession, music, dance, cultural activities, food, and ofrendas (art altars). The Día de Muertos exhibit is on display at the Longmont Museum. Next up is a dance performance at Firehouse Arts Center’s Katrina Ball on Oct. 19. Cyclists can ride “Pedal Pikes Peak” on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. when traffic is light. Wear reflective clothing. The summit opens at 8:30am and has food…yes, donuts…and souvenirs and restrooms. Reservations are required at Drivepikespeak.com. The cost is $20 per person. To accommodate cyclists, Pikes Peak has partnered with North Pole Santa’s Workshop to provide overflow parking in the northwest parking lot in case the parking lot near Gateway reaches capacity. Parking attendants will be on site from 6am to assist attendees.
