EXCLUSIVE: Sophie Watts, former co-founder president of STX Entertainment, has joined the board of British animation company Two Daughters Entertainment.
This appointment was made with an eye to U.S. expansion.
Two Daughters Entertainment was founded in 2016 by James Reatchlous. The company’s first IP, Moley, began as a half-hour special and now airs in 180 countries and 30 languages, including on Peacock in the United States. The company’s feature slate includes The Land of Sometimes, starring Ewan McGregor, Mel Brooks and Helena Bonham Carter. Directed by Leon Josen (Saving Santa) and Bonnie Arnold (Saving Santa). He will executive produce alongside Alan Yentob (Billy Elliot), Two Daughters Executive Chairman James Leechlas and CEO Simon Bobin.
The director appointments were announced last night at the Two Daughters Entertainment Gala event at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Hollywood.
Watts said today, “I’ve known James for several years and was fascinated by Morley from the beginning, so I’m thrilled to be able to help Two Daughters Entertainment grow and expand in Hollywood while building its foundation.” The company’s unique and heartwarming backstory is rare, and this authenticity is what sets it apart. Mr. Watts, along with Bob Simmons, helped grow STX into a significant independent major in 2011. She stepped down as president in 2018 before the company fell into trouble.
