MAMA is celebrating its 25th anniversary of celebrating Modesto area musicians, venues and events.
Voting is now open for this year’s Modesto Area Music Association Awards. This award is chosen entirely by the public. Voting can be done until Sunday, October 13th at 11:59pm at www.modestoareamusic.com.
The invitation-only awards ceremony will be held at the State Theater on October 15, according to a press release. However, the show will be streamed live on www.modestoview.com and on Facebook @modestoview at 6:30 p.m., so anyone can watch.
The public can vote in 15 categories, from best alternative/indie/pop music to best Latin music, best comedian, best event and best venue.
“In 2000 we celebrated at Club Maxx at the Doubletree, but who would have thought that 25 years later we would still be celebrating local musical talent?” MAMA Co-Founder Chris Murphy said in a release.
In this event, we will briefly look back at some of the “magic moments”.
Murphy co-founded the Music Society with Chris Rich. Mida Goodwin serves as MAMA director.
Local musician and Modesto Junior College music professor David Dow will receive this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
“We are fortunate to have many talented musicians who have remained influencers for decades, and we would like to honor David Dow’s many years of musical performance, education, and volunteer work that unites musicians. I am very proud of this,” Murphy said in the release.
Performances by Dow and friends will celebrate the music and talent of the late Maryrose Powell, with a special tribute performance by Doug Robinette and Patti Castillo Davis, according to a release. There will also be eight live performances by nominees in various categories.
