Macon Viv leaders have agreed to a two-year, $130,000 contract with Tiger Entertainment to increase community engagement at the venue.
MACON, Ga. — It may look like your average high school football stadium, but Henderson Stadium has long served as a premier venue for concerts, the annual Soul Jam, and community events in Macon .
Macon Viv leaders have agreed to a two-year contract with Tiger Entertainment in an effort to increase community engagement at the venue.
A Macon-based booking and talent agency will now have exclusive management of the stadium.
“We look forward to hosting a variety of events and creating more memories for our community and the people of Macon and Central Georgia,” said Danette Tillman, president of Tiger Entertainment. “This is a historic stadium…people will come drive here. [and] Learn how to parallel park. I learned how to parallel park here. ”
The company receives $65,000 annually to promote various sports, music and other community events. The stadium was once known as the home field for Southwest High School and Central High School.
Dunnett was a member of the Southwest High School band, and Vice President Al Tillman said Dunnett also has roots in the neighborhood.
Tillman resigned from the Macon-Bibb Commission earlier this year, but said the opportunity to promote the stadium was a full-circle experience.
“There are a lot of things we can do to incorporate the community,” Al Tillman said. “For years, this was a prime spot for talent shows, battles of the bands, and football games. When I was in second grade, I walked here every day to go to Matilda Hartley. That’s what I grew up doing as a young man, and I still do.”It’s just incredible to be able to market and promote this stadium. ”
Macon-Bibb attorney Michael McNeil told 13WMAZ the county doesn’t need to solicit bids for consulting or management contracts like Tillman’s.
The former commissioner’s company was chosen based on his experience as a concert promoter, he said.
