And just like that, the ’90s officially ended.
Hopes for the next season of the comedy series “That ’90s Show” were just dashed when Netflix canceled the show.
The sudden news comes just over a month after Part 3 of the two-season “That ’70s Show” sequel was released on August 22nd, with star Kurtwood Smith confirming it on Instagram. Ta. Netflix releases multi-cam comedies in partial seasons or half seasons after their initial airing.
The series will see Smith return as Red Forman, Debra Jo Rupp will play Kitty, and “That ’70s Show” cast members Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and Wilmer Valderrama also reappeared.
“I know you’re asking when season 3 is coming, but I have some tough news… Netflix will not be renewed,” Smith posted on Instagram Thursday night. “I would like to take a moment to thank all of the fans around the world who have supported and watched the show. So he came to me and reached out to me through social media, which was really cool. It was such a fun moment to be able to bring Grandpa Red to life for you guys.”
“I’ve said it before, but it’s worth mentioning again…this show had a lot of heart and the most amazing cast, writers, directors, producers and crew that any actor would want to work with. ” continued Smith. “Thank you to Red and Kitty, their grandchildren, their grandchildren’s friends and neighbors, the original cast members of That ’70s Show, and all of our wonderful guest cast members for entertaining us for two seasons. Thank you. We don’t mean to steal Red Forman’s words. [expletives] …We buy the show because good grandparents would try their hardest to get these kids through high school. ”
The show premiered on Netflix in 2023 with 10 episodes called “Part 1.” The second season was expanded to 16 episodes, divided into “Part 2” and “Part 3.”
“That ’90s Show” is set 15 years after the events of “That ’70s Show,” and focuses on Eric (Grace) and Donna (Prepon)’s daughter Leia (Callie Habelda), who visits her grandparents for the summer. Ta.
