PROVIDENCE — Trinity Repertory Company continues its 2024-25 season with the Rhode Island premiere of Kate Hamill’s “Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – APT 2B” from Oct. 3 to Nov. 17 at the Dowling Theater perform.
The play will be performed in repertoire with Serena Filling’s “POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are 7 Women Trying To Keep Him Alive.”
“This season of Trinity Rep has been all about sharing women’s stories,” Laura H. Harris Artistic Director Curt Columbus said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to introduce our audiences to Kate Hamill’s sparkling female-led adaptation of Sherlock Holmes.”
“This wonderful version, written by one of America’s most produced playwrights and directed by our great friend Laura Kepley, is the perfect complement to our production of POTUS this fall. ” he added.
Described as “The Hound of the Baskervilles meets Thelma and Louise,” the play is a modern retelling of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic mystery novel.
“Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – APT 2B” premiered at Kansas City Repertory Theater in January 2022.
Hamill, a New York City-based playwright and actor, is best known for her feminist adaptations of classic novels such as Sense & Sensibility, Little Women, and Vanity Fair.
Her version of “Pride and Prejudice” was performed at Trinity Rep in 2018. She has been among the 10 most frequently produced playwrights in the United States for seven consecutive years.
Director Laura Kepley was a member of the inaugural class of directors in the Brown/Trinity Representative MFA Program. After graduating, she worked as an artistic assistant at Trinity Rep for five years, working on Trinity Rep’s films Boots on the Ground, Clean House, Some Things Are Private, and Shapeshifter. ” and “Syringa Tree”.
She was named Associate Artistic Director of the Cleveland Play House in 2010 and Artistic Director in 2013, a position she held for nearly a decade.

“This adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories offers a new look at the mysteries and characters we love from the classic series,” she said. “This raucous production combines Victorian and modern times and explores how we will survive and thrive in this ever-changing post-pandemic world.”
The production’s creative team includes set designer Colette Pollard, costume designer Shahrzad Mazaheri, lighting designer Dawn Chan, sound designer Sarce Pickett, fight coordinator Mark Rose, and dialect coach Shelley Corinne. – Rice and dramaturge Yvie Dumont.
