You’ve changed since Elon Musk took office. Keyboard warriors found strength in their anonymity, sending waves of misinformation, hatred, and fear.

The more people I blocked, unfollowed, or simply tried to distance myself from, the more their content seemed to find unusual ways to make me more discoverable.
Commercialization has nothing to do with our separation. I totally understand and don’t blame Elon for making money off of you. But that didn’t have to come at the cost of your credibility, trust, or brand.
I’m not looking for an echo chamber or a silo for my own views and opinions to be bounced back to, but I’m not looking for your platform to be rotten hate and misinformation.
The ugliness of politics and war, the persecution of minorities, the overly exaggerated opinions of minorities, the constant name-calling, slander, whining, whining, and outright lies. There’s a reason people leave you in droves. It is now too difficult to be rational, act thoughtfully, and contribute to something truly worthwhile.
Medianet 2024 Media Landscape Report confirms my opinion. It also turns out that many media outlets and journalists are also turning their backs on X as a source of stories, ideas, content, and experts. It’s sad to think that something that was once a great resource for journalists and was designed for them is now no longer needed.
To quote directly from the report: “Professional use of Twitter/X decreased significantly in 2023, with 58 percent of respondents saying they used the platform, down from 69 percent in 2022.10 % said they recently deleted or recently deleted a post.” Delete your account or stop using it in 2023. ”
With a decline of 11% in one year and a number likely to increase in 2025, your platform is ready for journalism and communicators.
This is a huge shame given Australia’s constantly changing media landscape. Especially in Perth, where newsrooms are often understaffed, it provided us with a very simple resource to connect with the public and find really important case studies.
In the meantime, I’m not going to jump into the thread. It’s just a token platform to make you believe that the meta is happier and more inclusive. There’s no proof of that…I’ll jump right in if I remember the password. Speaking of which, Facebook, we need to talk.
But for now, as heartbreaking as it is to end this, the time has come. I wish you all the best in your life. Our era has been very exciting, but now it’s time to say goodbye.
