More than 300 bodies have been found in a mass grave in a cemetery in Oldham. Most of the remains belong to babies and children.
The unmarked grave was found by chance by a woman looking for the last resting place of her baby twin brothers who were born in 1962.
Before the 1980s, stillborn babies were taken away from families, who were not given any details of where they were buried.
The government says work is being done to improve the way burial records are kept.

Lovely church people. See how they are so much better than the rest o us?
Oldham is very diverse, but im sure that had nothing to do with this
Another none story… How about the plague pits which the government makes it difficult to find them. One will be right next to your home. With still hundreds of years left before safe excavation can be made.
Ok, Iโm going to ask a question, Iโm not being horrible, I just want to understand. My understanding of mass grave is one where everyone buried in it was done so together, immediately or at least within a week before the grave is closed. The way they are talking about this is that the people in this grave died over a period of years, did I get that wrong? If not, how the hell did they get 300 people in there? Keep re-opening it? There needs to be a really deep investigation into this if that is so, if it was not over a period of time, where in heckโs name did they keep everyone until the โburialโ, that is horrific. As I said, Iโm not being morbid, I just want to understand.
Who decided and carried out this appalling policy. They should be named and shamed.
I'm confused. shouldn't the burial be the burden of the parents? why are these hospitals doing that?
typical british behavior. They've always been monsters pretending to be civilised human. Just look at their history of colonialism and mass genocide.
Hard to comprehend how this was ever thought to be a legitimate way to handle a baby's death. What were they thinking?
Those are rookie numbers compared to 'modern' times.
Sending Love and Hugs to All!
This is the kind of indifference one would expect from a feudal state not a democratic one
All done by the nhs
like WTF
How can a democratic system do this to it's own citizens?????
Probably not still born at all.
This isnโt new itโs been going on for centuries Iโve no doubt it will happen again!
I really think the English have alot to learn about basic human empathy. 1980s… that's just appalling. Anything like this happen in Ireland in 1980s? How about Scotland? Wales? Just England then.
Very sad, poor little babies
This makes me livid. Itโs legalized abuse of corpses, and whoever did it should be held accountable.
Proof they do not care about anyone.
So very sad!
This is the saddest story Iโve heard in some time. Perhaps itโs my American upbringing, but Iโm surprised these hospitals werenโt sued out of existence. What on earth made them think it was their responsibility and not the families to deal with human remains??
Yet another scandal from โgreatโ Britain.
Calousness. No wonder there is a mental health crisis.
Wonder how many were cremated?
50 something years ago this was common practice in Australia too โฆ I donโt know where my twin sister is buried because of this practice. My mum was told to forgot about her and be happy I survived. My DEEP sadness around this is quite profound. I know my sister is in a grave site in a particular area but beyond that ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐ข๐ข๐ข
How is this not criminal. The fact that this nefarious practice was carried out without the consent of parents is highly suspicious.
1978?! Not 1878!
What where they doing with them babies
This happend to my mum in 1972, she had twins and they lived for 14 days. It must of been heartbreaking for my parents.
This is cold-hearted and fvcked up in the extreme. They had no right to decide for those mothers what would happen to their deceased offspring, to take away their right to grieve and say a proper farewell.
The church in Ireland has the patent on thisโฆ no mercy. I absolutely hate them. Theyโre a cult. They have babies buried all over Ireland.
.
Iโm never surprised by the evil done to babies.
This should be a national scandal. Instead prople like Davies are trying to overturn verdicts which are bleeding obvious.
This is absolutely disgusting and unbelievable that shocking incidents like this are still constantly seeping out the woodwork.
Why would it be preferred that a poor stillborn baby should be buried in an unmarked and unknown to anyone (as in family)
Mass grave. With no respect and no decency.
Rather than there being a memorial ceremony where a much loved and very wanted baby have the farewell they deserved by their very own parents…
I don't understand why this is a more suitable option in officials eyes? It's nothing to do with the hospitals policy ect, it's just down right cold and callous. Most likely decided by some bitter, lonely, childless, single hermit sat with their meal for one rummaging through the lonely heart columns.
Because there's no logical reason for any of this ever happening to anyone in the first place!
Itโs awful, poor mothers ๐ขโฆ Ive lost a baby, I understand, imagine what Palestine mums feel like. Their babies โvanishโ of unnatural man-made deaths. ๐ข
Why werenโt the parents given the opportunity to have a funeral? Is that not whatโs normally done?
I'm sure there more like this around the country
Clickbait. This is meant to draw people in. Bodies have to be disposed of somewhere. There was obviously no money to bury them properly. Millions are spent on stupid things in the U.K. and this is the result. Let go.
Oh this is terrible! Those poor babies, and especially the poor mothers!
Nhs at work the ones letby been stitched up for and jorris sorted in mass killings in the uncared homes and coverd it up with covid remember !
God bless ๐
There is no reason for parents not to be told what is happening with their loved ones bodies, unless trying to hide something.โ๐ผ
This is insane ๐ฎ
Do we really think that our authorities value us any more today overall?
Who did thisthe nurses or doctors x
