Look closely at this 1937 mural and you might find evidence that time travel is possible, at least according to some internet sleuths.
The painting depicts a scene from the 17th century and appears to show a man holding something that wouldn’t be available for another few hundred years.
The painting, titled “Mr. Pynchon and the Settlement of Springfield,” depicts the founders of what is now the town of Springfield, Massachusetts, surrounded by Native Americans.

At the centre of Umberto Romano’s painting is the famous British colonist William Pynchon.
But it’s the man immediately to Pynchon’s right who is causing the commotion.
The Native American man appears to be sitting in a bathtub, staring at a “smartphone” he is holding in his right hand.
Upon closer inspection, the man appears to be using his thumbs to scroll down the “screen” of the mysterious object.

Since it surfaced online in recent days, several theories have emerged.
However, one Reddit user has pondered possible solutions to the puzzling mural.
“It certainly looks like it, but he seems to be in the bathtub so it’s probably just soap.”
Smartphones only became popular very recently, almost 400 years after the events depicted in this mural.

With all the fuss and excitement surrounding the iPhone 8, it’s easy to forget that Apple will be unveiling not one, but three new iPhone models later this year.
We can also conclude that the images surfacing so close to Apple’s latest release could be yet another genius marketing campaign.
If all goes according to plan, Apple will launch the long-awaited iPhone 8 alongside the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus in late September.
