The biggest game of the season was played with great fanfare.
No. 4 Alabama put No. 2 Georgia on the ropes early in the top-five showdown, briefly leading 28-0, but the Bulldogs battled back and forced a dramatic finish in Tuscaloosa. In the end, after trading leads late in the fourth quarter, Alabama secured the victory with a miraculous catch-and-run TD by freshman Ryan Williams and an interception in the end zone by cornerback Zavian Brown.
The 41-34 finish capped off a great day of college football action. The game started early as Kentucky faced No. 6 Ole Miss in Oxford, outscoring the Rebels 20-17 in a back-and-forth affair. It ended with a field goal shot that would have tied the game.
Yet another top team lost at home to an unranked opponent, with Arizona defeating No. 10 Utah 23-10 in a late-night upset.
Later in the day, No. 21 Oklahoma picked No. 6 to score its first SEC win with a come-from-behind victory over Auburn. No. 16 Notre Dame also picked up an important win over No. 15 Louisville, No. 9 Penn State played at home against No. 19 Illinois, and Colorado defeated UCF on the road.
The night ended with No. 25 Boise State, led by running back Ashton Giunty, defeating Washington State 45-24.
