Australia spinner Jess Jonassen believes India are well aware of the UAE situation for the 2024 T20 World Cup and that India will be the favorites for the tournament.
As women’s cricket moves towards this year’s marquee event, the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 hosted by the United Arab Emirates, veteran Australian spin bowler Jess Jonassen has revealed her favorite players to win the title.
Speaking at an event in New Delhi, the Australian spinner has not been selected in the squad to tour the UAE but is helping his teammates get the job done and extend their advantage in the shortest format.
โWhen it comes to the top four teams, I have to say Australia, my home country. I have seen with my own eyes how hard everyone has worked, not just this pre-season, but since the T20 World Cup in South Africa. “There’s obviously been a little bit of a change. But the girls have been developing well for this World Cup,” she said, as quoted by Firstpost.
She also believes that the Indian women’s team also has the potential to be one of the top teams in the tournament, considering that they are used to playing in the UAE compared to Australia being a major point .
“India are really the front runners because of their depth and diversity. They have a deeper knowledge of the situation in the UAE. We haven’t played there, but Australia knows how to play in big tournaments. and cannot be underestimated,โ she added.
As for England and Sri Lanka, Jonassen believes the former have top-level players in their squad and can contribute to victory. Regarding the latter, she praised Sri Lanka’s approach to the game as they have continued to defeat some worthy opponents of late.
โEngland are obviously always at the top and are definitely the third team. They are currently over there (in the UAE) for their pre-season camp and they always take their camp to Oman, but from what I understand, they are also in the UAE. “The situation is quite similar. They are also a really experienced team, with some of the best players in the world being part of the team, such as Sophie Ecclestone and Nat Silver-Blunt,” she said.
“Fourthly, I would go with Sri Lanka. They are recent Asian Cup champions and have won several series and matches against top teams,” Jonassen added.
Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to begin on October 3, 2024, with Bangladesh women’s team taking on Scotland women’s team in the tournament opener to be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium at 3:30 pm (IST).
