Advisor Helmut Marko has revealed that Red Bull are “interested” in potentially offering him a new role within the team following Daniel Ricciardo’s departure from the club.
On Thursday night, it was announced that Ricciardo would be replaced by Red Bull reserve driver Liam Lawson for the remainder of the season.
Lawson has six races left to prove why he deserves the vacant seat alongside Hiroki Tsunoda in their sister team next season, or Sergio Perez’s Red Bull seat.
Ricciardo is not in contention for a seat, but the Milton Keynes-based team are interested in retaining his services for PR purposes.
“We are interested,” Marko told Motorsport-Total. “Daniel is one of the most popular F1 drivers, especially in the United States.”
Following Ricciardo’s exit from F1, Marko actually expects the 35-year-old to retire from motorsport all together.
The Austrian does not think Ricciardo will move to another category to continue his racing career, and in fact believes that he is faced with a major decision regarding his life.
“It’s hard to imagine him moving to another racing category,” Marko said. “I can’t believe that.
“On the other hand, the question is whether he will participate in PR activities if he is no longer actively involved in the race.
“Ricardo has a lot of money in his bank account. This is an important decision about his life, about how he wants to organize his future.”
