The 2024 Republican National Convention kicks off in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Monday after presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt.
The four-day event began just days after a gunman opened fire on Trump at a rally for the president in Butler, Pennsylvania, killing one protester and wounding two others. The gunman, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, was shot and killed by a Secret Service agent shortly thereafter.
Trump, bleeding from a bullet that pierced his ear, was escorted off the stage by Secret Service agents at Butler on Saturday. “I can’t believe this kind of behavior could happen in our country,” Trump wrote on social media shortly after the incident.
Trump will be formally nominated as the presidential candidate and will announce his running mate at the convention, and is currently scheduled to address delegates on Thursday night, the final day of the convention.
