Malachi Black’s AEW contract is set to expire sooner than expected and WWE wants to bring him back, according to a new report.
Raj Giri recently reported that Malachi Black’s AEW contract is expiring soon. Black’s contract runs through early 2025, and AEW said they are working to re-sign him. He also noted that there is “huge interest” in Black outside of AEW.
Dave Meltzer reported the latest information in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He mentioned that WWE wants Malachi Black back. According to Meltzer, Black tried to inform Triple H when he took over in 2022, and WWE tried to rehire many wrestlers released during Vince McMahon’s tenure, especially those in AEW. Meltzer said Black’s contract runs through early 2025, but AEW could add some stoppage time to his contract.
Black is well connected to WWE as his wife Zelina Vega works for the company. He previously had a prominent run in WWE as Aleister Black, winning the NXT Championship. WWE released him in June 2021, and he debuted in AEW in July. Black is a member of the House of Black and has previously won the AEW World Trios Championship.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
