SAN Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo (sixth from left) with a delegation to the United Arab Emirates.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, SAN Festus Keyamo, today led a high-level Nigerian delegation to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to finalize negotiations for the long-awaited resumption of Emirates Airlines’ flights to Nigeria. I visited.
The talks held earlier today also laid the foundation for a new Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between the two countries, aimed at strengthening aviation ties and ensuring mutually beneficial cooperation.
Accompanied by his technical team, Keyamo held constructive discussions with UAE aviation authorities with a focus on the smooth reintroduction of Emirates into Nigerian airspace, scheduled for next Tuesday. A key element of the discussion was the new BASA, which is expected to strengthen cooperation between Nigeria and the UAE and set clear guidelines for the two countries’ evolving relationship in the aviation sector.
The main outcome of the talks was an agreement on reciprocal rights, which provided an opportunity for Nigerian airlines to begin operating direct flights to the UAE. This represents a significant development for Nigeria’s aviation industry, increasing international connectivity and giving travelers more options for flights between the two countries.
Commenting on the success of the negotiations, Keyamo said: “Today’s discussions reaffirm our commitment to fostering a balanced and positive partnership with the UAE.” I’m happy. This will not only deepen bilateral relations but also strengthen the international competitiveness of Nigeria’s aviation industry. As Emirates returns to Nigeria, we look forward to the development and mutual benefits of our aviation service relationship.
The development comes after weeks of diplomatic and technical consultations aimed at resuming direct air transport between Nigeria and the UAE. This reflects the Federal Governmentโs dedication to achieving the best outcomes for both Nigerian and international travelers.
The resumption of Emirates Airline operations and the implementation of the new BASA is expected to play a pivotal role in promoting economic growth as well as promoting tourism, business and cultural exchanges between Nigeria and the UAE.
