The United States’ lead in the 2024 Presidents Cup disappeared Friday as the international team bounced back at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec.
Team USA won all five four-ball matches on Thursday and took an early 5-0 advantage to dominate. The U.S. team was 10.5 points away from winning its 10th straight tournament, and the international team needed to step up on the second day.
That’s exactly what happened. Team Captain Mike Weir’s group won all foursome matches, tying the overall score at 5-5. This dramatic turnaround marked the first consecutive wins in tournament history.

Hideki Matsuyama and Sung-jae Im set the tone in the first match of the day, closing out the match with seven consecutive birdies on the 12th hole to seal the victory. His seven and six wins over Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay tied for the largest margin of victory in Presidents Cup history.

In the opening match of the day, international team members Matsuyama and Lim Sung-jae won the first two holes.
The only time the Internationals have won consecutive holes as a team was on the first day (Day/Anne 15-16).

Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith picked up the International team’s second win of the day. He was tied with Collin Morikawa and Saheeth Segala for the first three holes, but in the end he made three consecutive birdies from No. 4 to No. 6 to take a 3-up lead.
Scott scored 22 career points in the Presidents Cup, largely By international players in the history of the event.

After Christian Bezuidenhout and Jason Day held off a comeback from Max Homa and Brian Harman, the Canadian duo of Corey Connors and Mackenzie Hughes defeated Windham Clark and Tony Finau in 13 holes.
In front of an excited home crowd, Connors and Hughes finished with seven birdies.
“Today was a special day,” Connors said after the win. NBC Sports. “The crowd was excited from the beginning. I wanted to get off to a good start, but I kept my foot on the gas and played some great golf.”

Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henry birdied the second hole to take an early lead, and the Americans almost won the final match of the day.
However, the advantage did not last long. Kim Si-woo and Ahn Byung-hoon tied the score on the next hole. Scheffler and Henry briefly fell behind in No. 6, but were tied again and ultimately trailed again in No. 13.
The score remained the same until the end of the match when Kim sank a 15-foot putt to seal the victory on the 18th hole.

The U.S. will try to take the lead again on Saturday, but both teams will play in a four-ball session starting in the day before moving into a foursomes match. The four-ball game is scheduled to begin at 7:02 a.m. ET.
