With multiple cops trying to subdue an assailant chokehold is absolutely unnecessary
Damn now people are saying all chokes are bad. Did CNN use to be a reputable source?
This is incorrect. None of these guys seem to know what they're doing. You should pass out before your airway is cut off. That's why a rear choke/chokehold is actually more humane than any other submission technique
so stupid. Choke holds should be allowed. If you ever dealt with a wild animal you always want to gain control over the head by getting on top and putting it in a choke hold. Yes George Floyd was a wild druggie POS animal and my comparison is valid.
There are nonlethal alternatives to chokeholds that can be used, which US police are just ignoring. E.g., there are shotguns that can fire small pillows with less force. They can be fired at persons' limbs if they are resisting without killing them.
I just saw a report that former LA police Chief Gates claimed that African Americans were different and more susceptible to dying from chokeholds. However, if he had any concern for their lives, that would mean that he would have wanted to ban chokeholds from being used particularly on them, because they were vulnerable.
It is like saying that you know that a particular group of persons will die if they eat shellfish (e.g., due to allergies), so it is not your fault that they are dying when you give them shellfish. It is your fault and if you care for their lives, the solution is NOT to give them more darn shellfish. The issue here is continuing racism within our police forces not chokeholds.
This is clearly way too aggressive for the average person. I'm pretty sure there has to be a better way to attack a person. It's obvious it's not that good if you can't freaking talk or breathe and cops gotta do it during an extremely stressful situation. The fact that authorities in power don't notice any of this is crazy and ridiculous. Whoever knows this would really fear cops.
Wait isn’t this CNN the people who want the chokehold banned???
I took a year of Kung Fu and TaeKwonDo and they never taught us a choke hold. This is very practical if you get attacked. Instead we learned the dumbest garbage that you would never use in a real fight if your life is being threatened.
you know he’s enjoying it
I like the way Dan Bangino explained the difference in chokeholds and other means of restraining people

0:36 same thing happened on 25 may 2020… Except with George floyd
2:11 that adrenaline response is probably what happened with Michael Brown. 😢😢😢😢😢
This reporter is enjoying this a little too much 🤔
Very important to understand: The natural response to no being able to breath is to struggle. Officers incorrectly interpret this as fighting them. No so. Lifeguards often have to "fight" drowning swimmers as they are in panic mode. Good lifeguards are able to calm the person down, but not always.
You will not be put in a chokehold unless you are a criminal or victim.End of story.
UmMmmmmm Matt can put me in a choke hold any day🙄😏
"…the next guy to get HIS hands around my neck…"
Wow CNN, thanks for telling us what choking is. Fucking waste of air space.
Asphyxiation (air) vs. Strangle (blood). Strangles have been used safely in Judo tournaments for over a century. Judo banned asphyxiation chokes, (ie Do-Jime) from competition because they were so dangerous.
wait a minute…im no science but i'm a lil confused.
this guy's is saying that a piece of matter that splinters hot lead into a person's body is more lethal than a full contcact technique that if performed ideally subdues anyone within 10 seconds? get outta my face, fake news! i'll keep clicking these vids though…
I have two opinions about this video. Political connotations aside, I think the federal government should mandate certain restraint/incapacitate maneuvers for the cities to follow. I also think the choke hold they mandate should be the carotid choke since it affects the blood flow and not the subject's ability to breathe.
If you can shout you can still breathe.
In short, America is FUCKED
I wish they did it when they need to do it, not every situation needs a chokehold.
"Stop Resisting!" "Chief, your knee's on his throat, he's just trying to breathe, ease off and why do we have six guns pointed at him? He's face down on the floor, your choking him, Joe's on his back and we all see he has nothing in his hands right now. What's the threat?"
We were taught and frequently used choke holds when I used to work loss prevention. Very effective against combative individuals.
If that Bob was black they would have shot him first
