X, formerly Twitter, has made changes to its block feature, making all public posts viewable by everyone on the platform, including blocked users. The social networking and microblogging site will make a user’s posts visible to individuals who have been blocked by the user. Elon Musk, owner of X, responded to a post about the removal of the current block button, saying, “The block feature blocks the account from engaging with public posts, but does not block them from viewing.”
X will display a “You’re blocked” message when you try to view a blocked user’s profile, and will not allow blocked users to see the account’s followers, replies, or following list.
According to The Verge, X is introducing this change because users can already see posts from people they block by using a different account or logging out. Elon Musk previously said the block feature is “pointless” and suggested it should be phased out in favor of a more powerful mute feature. The change will allow blocked users to see their posts, but won’t allow them to interact with them. It has also been speculated that the move may be aimed at increasing advertising visibility to all users.
Previously, X had announced that only premium subscribers would be able to live stream on the platform, which was confirmed by X’s official (a)Live profile.
Twitter moved to the X-domain in June this year, following a rebranding in July 2023 shortly after Elon Musk became CEO of the social media platform.
