Beloved R&B singer Usher is one of the latest celebrities to be embroiled in online controversy following Diddy’s death, but there’s more to it than meets the eye.

While multiple stories have come out from Usher himself and others about his time with the Bad Boy mogul as a teenager, the latest rumor appears to have stemmed from a slew of recently deleted tweets from the singer’s official X/Twitter account. Usher said he’d simply been hacked and that people were overreacting.
“My account got hacked and people are taking advantage!,” the “Climax” singer posted Sunday night ahead of his second show in Los Angeles as part of his “Past Present and Future Tour.” “See you tonight at the Intuit Dome.”
Hacked or not, people online just didn’t believe it. You might be wondering why. The since-deleted tweet not only came out in the midst of Diddy’s federal indictment, but also when Usher was named in the latest lawsuit filed by former Diddy Dirty Money and Danity Kane member Dawn Richard against the power producer. To be clear, Usher is not accused of wrongdoing in the lawsuit, but Richard claimed he witnessed Diddy physically assault his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.
The aforementioned coincidence led people to speculate that Usher’s since-deleted tweet had some connection to Diddy’s impending downfall, with people speculating that it was an attempt by the “U Got It Bad” singer to get his finances in order.
“Nobody believes that guy. He should find a nice island with no extradition and stay there for a while,” one X/Twitter user wrote in response to Usher’s tweet.
The reply added, “Wow. Okay bro. The timing is perfect because it comes after your handler, no my friend Didi, was arrested for crimes against children. You are a terrible liar. You can try to run but… you can’t hide. All will come out.”
Referring to one of the shocking revelations in Diddy’s federal indictment, another user said: “Answer me this question: How much baby oil do you have stocked in your basement?”
But while playing internet sleuth may be fun for a while, Usher’s account was actually hacked about two weeks ago, as evidenced by screenshots posted by other X/Twitter users.
In the video, the “You Make Me Wanna” singer’s account can be seen posting countless tweets around Sept. 12 promoting meme coin scams and urging followers to fund dubious cryptocurrency investments. [Author’s note: I also saw these tweets happening in real time and knew something was up.]
People might think that all of this has something to do with Diddy or is somehow connected to him, but apparently that’s not the case. It’s not all a conspiracy, guys. Let’s do better next time.
