The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals in Scotland (CILIPS) announced the decision on its social media platforms on Monday.
Twitter/X has been embroiled in controversy since it was acquired by billionaire Elon Musk.

The group said one of the reasons for its withdrawal was the level of “misinformation and disinformation” seen on the platform.
The statement said: “CILIPS has decided to take a step back from X and will no longer post regularly on the platform.”
“Updates from CILIPS will be posted on our website, LinkedIn and Instagram.
“We recognize that misinformation is a much larger societal issue than is driven by any one platform alone. However, we believe that the levels of misinformation and disinformation we are seeing on the Twitter/X platform, and the algorithms that appear to promote hateful content, are increasingly at odds with our ethical principles.”
But the organisation confirmed it would continue to review the notice and reconsider its decision to withdraw in the “coming months”.

The statement added: “We will continue to work with our partners and the Scottish Media and Information Literacy Community of Practice to tackle this issue and raise levels of media and information literacy throughout our members and the services in which they work.”
“We will continue to keep the profile active and intermittently review notifications and messages, and will reconsider our decision in a few months.”
