According to an analysis by the Financial Times, Elon Musk has managed to dramatically reduce Twitter users in the UK since he bought the platform and rebranded Twitter as X.
Since a Tesla man showed up at the social media platform’s headquarters in 2022 with a kitchen sink, millions of users have abandoned the platform.
Once a vibrant space for political discussion, news updates and cultural engagement, Twitter usage in the UK has declined significantly as users seek alternative platforms.
Musk’s stance on free speech, mass layoffs and confusing policy changes have been cited as the main reasons for the exodus.
The dismantling of the content moderation system and the introduction of paid authentication alienated many long-time users who were unhappy with the way Musk was running the platform.
In the UK, where Twitter was a key forum for political debate, the change led to a significant drop in engagement.
Graph data shared online clearly shows a significant drop in UK users, confirming that Musk’s promises to revive Twitter have only accelerated its decline.
With no signs of this trend reversing, the platform’s future in the UK seems increasingly uncertain.
