CNN —
Legendary ABBA singer Bjorn Ulvaeus has married his partner Christina Sass for the third time, on Saturday in a ceremony hosted by comedian and former “British Bake Off” host Sandi Toksvig.
“Today, 21 September 2024, Björn Ulvaeus married Christina Sass from Herning, Denmark,” reads a statement posted to the 79-year-old songwriter and guitarist’s Instagram page.
The pair met in the southern German city of Nuremberg in 2021 “in connection with the release of ABBA’s latest album, Voyage,” and “began dating in the spring of 2022,” the statement continued. “The wedding took place in Copenhagen, surrounded by close friends and family.”
Toksvig, a former host of reality cooking show “The Great British Bake Off” (known to US viewers as “The Great British Bake Show”), was seen wearing a red robe with gold patterns and holding documents in a wedding photo shared on Instagram with the happy couple in the background.
A representative for Ulvaeus confirmed to the PA Media news agency that Toksvig had performed the wedding.
ABBA, which dominated the US and European charts in the 1970s, originally consisted of two couples: Ulvaeus and vocalist Agnetha Fältskog, and lyricist and keyboardist Benny Andersson and vocalist Anni-Frid Lyngstad.
Ulvaeus married Fältskog in 1971, and Anderson and Lyngstad married in 1978.
After winning the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with “Waterloo” and scoring such global hits as “Mamma Mia,” “Dancing Queen,” “SOS” and “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (Midnight Man),” Ulvaeus and Fältskog divorced before the release of the 1979 song “Voules Vous.”
Two years later, Anderson and Lyngstad also divorced, and the group disbanded in 1982.
Ulvaeus married Lena Calascio in 1981, but the couple divorced after 41 years of marriage in 2022, the year after ABBA reformed.
He has four children, two from each of his previous marriages.
