“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has won three times in a row.
The sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 horror comedy earned $26 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates on Sunday, keeping it at the top of the North American box office charts for a third consecutive week.
What you need to know: “Beetlejuice” grossed $26 million, beating out the new animated film “Transformers: One,” which made $25 million.
Paramount Pictures’ Optimus Prime origin story features the voices of Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry and Scarlett Johansson and earned $39 million worldwide.
Warner Bros.’ release of Beetlejuice, starring Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder once again, has grossed more than $226 million domestically in its first three weeks. Following a staggering opening of $110 million, Beetlejuice’s box office takings have been lackluster, but that should be rectified when The Joker hits the big screen on October 4th.
The film narrowly beat out the new animated film “Transformers: One,” which earned $25 million. Produced by Paramount Pictures, the Optimus Prime origin story starring Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry and Scarlett Johansson has grossed $39 million worldwide.
Warner Bros.’ release of Beetlejuice, starring Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder once again, has grossed more than $226 million at the domestic box office in its three weeks of release. It opened with $110 million (the third-highest opening weekend of the year) and brought in $51.6 million in its second weekend. Its worldwide gross is now at $329.8 million.
In third place was the horror film “Speak No Evil,” starring James McAvoy, which earned $5.9 million in its second weekend, for a total of $21.5 million.
However, there has been a quiet period at the box office when it comes to “Beetlejuice,” but that is expected to change when “Joker: For Do” hits the big screen on October 4th.
“September was a somewhat quiet month, with roughly 47% of revenue coming from this one film,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore. “Fortunately, October is shaping up to be a month of interesting blockbusters.”
“Deadpool & Wolverine,” the second-highest-grossing movie of the year, added $3.9 million in its ninth weekend to remain in the top five for a domestic total of $627 million, trailing only Pixar’s “Inside Out 2.”
Substance, the Cannes Film Festival buzzworthy body horror starring Demi Moore and directed by Coralie Farge, earned sixth place in box office grosses with $3.1 million in its opening weekend from a limited release.
“Am I Racist?”, the Daily Wire film about conservative columnist Matt Walsh going undercover as a “DEI trainee,” remained in the top 10 after last week’s No. 4 ranking, finishing in No. 7 with $2.9 million for a two-week total of $9 million.
