Fashion is one of the most polluting industries in the world. But a small town in Italy called Prato has built its fortune on transforming old scraps into new clothes, particularly knitwear and wool.
Could Prato represent a model for sustainable fashion?

This is amazing! I hope to see more places all over the world recycling clothes like this, making the fashion industry more sustainable long term. It hurts my heart when friends and family buy stuff from sites like Temu and Shein, which impact the environment negatively in so many ways.
What if we only bought used cloths for the next 10 years?
I saw a massive cleaning of a hoarder house that had clothing everywhere, tons literally. The guy who was cleaning said everything in the house was moldy. They sent everything to the landfill. They did not even separate the clothing from other kind of garbage, like bottles, toys and other stuff. They never separate or recycle anything in their channel. They just do not care.. they put effort only on the final effect that an empty clean house cause. Please do not support those channels.
Can Cotton and Hemp be recycled in a similar way?
Nice
Indiya me asa bijanes suru kar shakate he helan me
I wish there was such in the uk…
How much does the recyling cost? Does it worth?
Buy talored suits, they last a lifetime. Buy expensive, quality, and classic clothes and garments. You will not o ly make the world look better, you will look better, feel better, and do the world a favour too. Hand stitched, hand made, good quality clothing and shoes! It's actually cheaper because they last almost a lifetime.
They should recycle leather, too. The process of tanning with chemicals is horrible for the environment as well as the sacrificing of animals
I hope they use something that removes odors because some people don't bathe much and the clothes pick up body odor.
👍
Watching from Bangalore ,help us reach u out…. contact details, please
👏🏽
Good 👍🏾
very well done!
are they only recycling wool ?
New fabrics are still cheaper to make so China will never adopt this. Also, normally only 5-15% of the garment fabric is recycled, and of course any buttons and zips have to be new too. So this is only a “plaster” on the huge problem.
I have a dream.

I created a company in 2008 called earth forward. This was one of our ideas. And still many that the world has yet to organize into daily life. 😎❤
So does this only work for wool? And would it have to be 100% wool?
This is so nessasary.
What’s the water consumption? It looks high

And whats is done about the whater used by to whash the material?
This needs to be a global initiative before it’s too late!
I would love to visit one day. Prato is the hope of the world.
They're breathing in all those fibers 😢
How much energy does this spend? How many chemicals are used to decolor and recolor? How long will the fiber last? All recycle wool sweaters that my dad bought from good brands get ruined in months, when I buy wool sweaters from 80s, 90s they last forever.
We should stop buying new clothes all the time, to prevent all this textile waste to begin with. There are sewists/quilters who purchased shirts 2nd hand, and make quilts out of them! Also, recycling is very expensive…so it seems that it is cheaper to just throw it out, and purchase new.
