Wages had declined in line with costs and productivity and had been stagnant since the 1970s before this "iincrease", and still remain below what they were worth pre -Reagan.
% of money has increased exponentially going to the top few % since the 1960s. The inequality hap has risen sharply in the last 50 years and its not by chance or market forces but by legislation and a bought and paid for Congress.
Ballmer was CEO of Microsoft when they were being sued by the Feds for having a monopoly. They paid off a bunch of GOP and Bush when elected punted it to nothingness. Couldn't bring that up Jon??????? The irony of him now saying he is for gov't intervention on big business… very, very sad… him and Gates both trying to now be mother Teresa…
i doubt many Americans living in Europe would gladly swap their Tax and |Benefits in Europe for a return to the US system.
Its a myth Healthcare in Europe is inferior and that taxation is much higher.
A myth perpetrated to make US citizens believe Europe is a "socialist" nightmare.
The truth is the Democrat Party in the US would struggle to be considered anything but far right in Europe on their social programs.
I never watch Jon Steward and now I know why. The guy doesn’t let his guests speak ! He interrupts more than he listens.
Education spend not even in the first 5 areas… No wonder why people in the USA do not know where Goroka is…
I smell a bullshitter. I have a doctor who said in his opinion the best insurance plan right now is, Medicare. (Not Medicare Advantage.)
Most of our tax money goes towards the manufacturing of our military. Reduce that by half, and put that money back into our nation.
I wish Steward had a "WRITE" policy. I aligned with Steward the whole time, but he interrupted interesting dialogue with his next question the second he stepped into the baited territory. I'd love for Steward or Ballmer/Guest to say "write" when they have an idea prompted: the interrupted side writes what they were going to continue saying (so they don't forget) and the interrupter writes the question they had prompted and why. This way, after the full thought is shared, we can come back. I'd have loved to hear a bit more from Ballmer, as they could've led to even better Stewart pushes.
"You give us a regulation, we're gonna obey it" Crowd bursts into laughter
Yeah that about sums it up.
Tax the f out of these people…. And give it back to the people that they stole their billions from.
Wages are up for people like him. Another number playing man. He gets the "facts" to say what he wants.
Another Billionaire know it all. Tax these people out of existence.
What is really scary is that this man believes his own BS. Why? Because he was LUCKY enough for it to work for him.
NOT a problem with "healthcare spending". got a problem with greedy profiteer hyper-capitalist monopolies. insurance provides NO MEDICAL SERVICES, NO HEALTH CARE AT ALL. pigs
People are most satisfied with private insurance. Spoken like a true capitalist pig.
Whoa Jon we Europeans pay more for what exactly? Healthcare? … not a sniff!
His data is wrong
He’s a liar
Ballmer is such a clown
Disgusting
Wow Mr. Ballmer is so well informed and firing on all cylinders to say the least. Beyond impressed Mr. Ballmer! As if my opinion mattered. Wow.
He still talks like an idiot
I am no genius billionaire Waffle House patron but it does not occur to this gentleman to minimize spending in the top 6 like military toys to find health care money
I wish John Stewart would just let him talk.
I h8 to agree w/ Baller but Yes Government should use the tools it has (taxs & fees) to incentivize the behavior we want & discourage the the behavior we don't want. I would be nice if it would do that instead of bowing down to donor interests.
CPI is misleading indicator. Should be all over that when they trot it out.
Eat the rich
Capitalism in theory is "predictable" build a better widget and you will succeed. However that is not what present day capitalism is. Large companies use there money and power to squash competition and stifle innovation. Just look up the anti trust suit filed against Ballmer's Microsoft in 98. What is predictable is old bald white men justifying their exploitation of the proletariat as some gift bestowed to us.
If i may provide some context to Steve Ballmer's numbers @ 10:56. When comparing Europe to USA "procedures" Western Europe has a population of 200 million, the USA has a population of 350 million, therefore having a population that is 1.5 times larger would correlate to about 2 times that amount of "procedures" thus a nothing claim. Then to Ballmer says that MD's in USA get paid 2 time more than European Doctors. Which may be true, but in itself discredits the noble profession of being a doctor. Doctor's deservedly should be remunerated plentiful, but money should not be the main factor for becoming an MD if wealth is your doctors goal, tell them to be a lawyer and get a new one.
To see how other countries treat their citizens better than does the U.S., see Michael Moore's excellent movie, "Where To Invade Next."
EVERY major country on earth has universal health care. Because it costs less, covers everyone and has better health outcomes. – We are trapped in the corrupt, dysfunctional "insurance" con game. NOBODY goes bankrupt for high medical debt in other countries.
I think Jon challenged him more than he expected, lol
DEVELOPERS!! DEVELOPERS!! DEVELOPERS!! DEVELOPERS!! DEVELOPERS!! DEVELOPERS!! DEVELOPERS!! DEVELOPERS!!
Okay but when is he going to try and sell us Windows 1.0
Great interview!
I wish Jon let Steve talk more. I feel like he was making interesting points i have not considered, but you kinda cut him off a few times before he got the complete thought out.
So the government has never really wanted to help with paying out social security
More discussions like this!
This was a fascinating discussion
I am impressed by Mr Ballmer's opinions as I am by Mr Stewart's line of questioning
Domestic jobs are moved over seas to crush unions and create new enemies for WW3.
Jon. It's very difficult to understand the two of you when you shout at each other. This is especially true on my cell phone. Thanks, Robert
The site is useful! Everything else Balmer said can be forgotten starting with “government is a lot like a business.”
Superb Interview!
