According to Italian outlet MilanLive.it, both AC Milan and Inter Milan are in the running to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s number one player, Guglielmo Vicario.
Vicario joined Tottenham from Serie A side Empoli in the summer of 2023, and Milan Live report that his performances so far for the club have “persuaded” the Serie A club to sign the goalkeeper next summer.
The article goes on to say that the 27-year-old is “ready for a big return” to Italy and that Inter Milan have “no doubts” about making an offer for the player, seeing him as the ideal choice to take the lead in goals from current number one Yann Sommer, who turns 36 later this year.
The paper says Inter have already enquired about the goalkeeper but Tottenham are prepared to stand firm as they do not want the player to leave the club.
Meanwhile, rivals AC Milan are also fans and are prepared to offer 30 million euros for him, but Tottenham would demand a “much higher price” to lose him.
Despite his very well-publicised weaknesses at set pieces, Vicario has proven to be a smart acquisition for Tottenham so far, with his shot-stopping and sweeping skills consistently top class and more than most fans would have expected from a goalkeeper who played for Empoli prior to last season.
The impression is that the Italian goalkeeper likes life in North London but, as reported above, if the opportunity ever arises he may find the chance to return to his native Italy and play for one of European football’s powerhouses too attractive an offer to turn down.
Tottenham are in no position to sell as Vicario is under contract with the club until 2028 and, as reported, Tottenham would likely demand a much higher transfer fee of around €30 million to lose their number one.
